TV star Carol Vorderman celebrates at Chepstow on Thursday after Subway Surf wins the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Mares’ Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race.

Carol is best known as the ‘maths genius’ on Channel 4’s Countdown, is part of the Surf On The Turf partnership that owns the five year-old mare. Mikey Hamill gave the mare a confident ride to win by 5 lengths for trainer Kim Bailey.

Former Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond, whose wife Mindy organised the syndicate, is also involved.

Carol described that experience as amazing, and was thrilled with the Chepstow result. She said: "That was marvellous, fantastic. Hopefully we're going to have a lot of fun with her. We're hoping to go to Cheltenham next month and then again in years to come. We're really dreaming because the festival is the best meeting in the world."

Carol isn’t a stranger to the track, as she visited in December to attend the Coral Welsh Grand National, she said: "I do it love it here as it's such a beautiful, friendly, lovely course."

We hope to see Carol and Subway Surf back in Chepstow soon!
