It’s time to dust off the tweed jackets and flat caps, the National Hunt season is officially here and we start the Dragonbet Welsh Racing Festival!
Today features some top-quality racing with the Grade 2 Persian War Novices’ Hurdle which has an impressive roll of honour including Silviniaco Conti (2x King George VI Chase Winner at Ascot), Blaklion (Brown Advisory Winner at Cheltenham) , Thyme Hill (Challow Hurdle Winner at Newbury) and last year, Flying Fortune for the Bowen Family. Trained by Peter and Mickey Bowen, ridden by James Bowen.
It’s time for a super Saturday! Expect plenty of action both on and off the track.
On the track we’ll have the Wasdell Group Silver Trophy as our feature race of the day, with horses such as Don’t Push It and Ballyoptic on the list of previous winners for the £75,000 prize.
Off it, expect an amazing music act to be announced soon!
The Dragonbet Welsh Champion Hurdle is back at Chepstow!
First run here in 1969, the race featured some of the hottest hurdlers in Britain and Ireland, including Persian War and Sea Pigeon before taking a break in 2002. The race was then run from 2010-2024 at our sister racecourse Ffos Las!
Last season, Welsh trainer Sam Thomas trained both the winner and the runner-up (Lump Sum & Steel Ally).
