This race day is a fund raising event for Brain Tumour Research in memory of Gwilym Llewellyn who passed away in March 2021 at the age of 51 leaving behind his wife Cerian of 27 years, and his three daughters Shannon, Jessica and Olivia. They want to raise vital awareness of this devasting disease.
Gwilym was an avid cyclist and loved everything about it especially his love of pink cycling accessories. In remembrance of Gwilym today we want see as much pink at the racecourse, whether it be pink socks, tie, dress, flower or anything pink of your choice! A prize goes to the best Pink Dressed Lady and Gent.
Gwilym enjoyed many days at the races, he is the eldest son of trainer Bernard Llewellyn. Gwilyms daughter Jess is an amateur jockey, he bought a horse 3 years ago for her to ride and chose pink as the racing colours.
Historically only 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated towards brain tumour research. We hope todays charity race day in memory of Gwilym Llewellyn will encourage people to donate to help find a cure.
Todays race meeting also remembers Michael Maine who died from a brain tumour in July 2016 aged just 60 years old. Mike and his wife Sue were involved with racehorse ownership for 17 years with small syndicates as well as single ownership. Sue is joining us for todays fixture for a race named after Michael.
