Racing is for everyone. We guarantee a day at the races with us will get your hearts pounding and leave you wanting to come back for more!
In 2017 Chepstow Racecourse is home to a mixture of 32 Jumps and Flat fixtures. Highlights include popular annual fixtures such as Ladies Evening and Caribbean Night in July plus family friendly racedays with FREE entry and entertainment for children in April and August. The highlight of the year is in December with the prestigious Coral Welsh National which takes place just after Christmas.
2013 saw Chepstow’s very first Music Concert Racenight when the legendary Madness played following racing. The following year we were delighted to welcome Sir Tom Jones. Since then we've also staged Jules Holland, UB40, Simply Red, Peter Andre and more.
A day at Chepstow Racecourse promises to be a day out with a difference, and provides great value for money. Not only do children under 18 enter for FREE when accompanied by a paying adult but on our feature days, additional entertainment is also included!
Chepstow is a left handed, oval shaped undulating course of two miles in circumference.
The course is galloping in nature and proves itself to be a real test of stamina, especially throughout the winter months. Both Jumps and Flat races are staged at Chepstow on separate adjacent tracks, with the Jumps Course on the inside of the Flat Course. There is a Straight Mile which joins the main track at approximately the 5 furlong marker in the Home Straight. All Flat races up to 1 mile in distance are run over the Straight Mile.
There is no strong evidence of a regular draw advantage at Chepstow on the Flat.
Flat races are run on the mile straight over distances of 1 mile, 7 furlongs, 6 furlongs and 5 furlongs. Flat races of 2 miles 2 furlongs and 2 miles are started in front of the stands and 1 mile 4 furlong and 1 mile 2 furlong races start at the beginning of the back straight. The stalls are generally positioned on the Stand Side for races of distances up to one mile on the Straight Course, and on the inside rail for races of 1m 2f and upwards on the main course.
Jumps races over 2 miles start in front of the stands, with hurdle races of 2miles 4 furlongs, and steeple chases of 2 miles 3 furlongs starting at the beginning of the home straight. 3 mile and 3 mile 2 furlong races are started in the back straight, with the 3 mile 5 and half furlongs start for The Welsh National situated on the finishing line, near to the 'Stable Bend'.
